Pasquale R. "Pat"  Uricchio
Pasquale "Pat" Uricchio, 81, of Enfield, avid and passionate Red Sox fan, peacefully entered into eternal life on Monday, (August 18, 2008) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Pittsfield, MA on June 8, 1927 to the late William and Catherine (Kirchner) Uricchio, Pat was raised in Hartford and attended Hartford Public Schools until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy. Upon completion of his military service, Pat returned to Hartford to finish his high school education and attend Hillyer College (currently the University of Hartford) for two years. In 1955 he moved to Enfield where he had resided the past 53 years. An avid sports fan and participant Pat was a member of the Hartford Public High School varsity football and baseball teams, the U.S. Navy baseball team, the Hartford Merchants semi-pro football team and the Greater Hartford Softball League. He also enjoyed officiating basketball and softball and became a member of the American Softball Association (A.S.A.) and was a Connecticut Board certified basketball official. His many years of coaching included teams in the Thompsonville Little League, Our Lady of the Angels Academy varsity softball and basketball teams, Suffield High School varsity softball team, Fermi High School boys freshman team, Fermi High School girls junior varsity soccer and basketball teams and Fermi High School girls varsity softball and basketball teams. He was currently the coach of the Fermi High School girls junior varsity softball team. Pat had served as the Fermi High School Faculty Manager for winter sports since 2003. One of his proudest moments was presenting the "Pat Uricchio" award, at the completion of the Rotary sponsored Christmas basketball tournament, to the tournament's most valuable player. Pat will be sorely missed by his best pal and dog "Buddy". He is survived by his six children, Barbara and her husband John of East Hampton, Peter and his wife Mary Ellyn of Enfield, Paul and his wife Sharon of East Lyme, Dr. Mary Uricchio and her husband Dr. Michael Buchholtz of Huntington, NY, David of Lusby, MD and Patricia and her husband Rod of Suffield. Pat is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, Alex, Annie and Chris Merrifield, Matthew, Cassie, Andrew and Nathan Uricchio, Brett and Rachel Uricchio, Emily, Warren and Nora Buchholtz and Tyler Lewis; his brother, Bill Uricchio and sister, Jean Berube also survive him. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen (Cahill) Uricchio and a brother, Franklin Uricchio. Also left to mourn is a special friend, Ruth Gingras of Dalton, MA. Calling hours will be held Thursday, August 21 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, August 22 at St. Patrick's Church, 64 Pearl St., Thompsonville. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick's King St., Cemetery.
