SMSGT Richard Edward  Haskins
Senior Master Sergeant Richard Edward Haskins, 80, of Longmeadow, MA entered into eternal rest on Wednesday October 26, 2016. Richard was the beloved husband of 58 years to the late Barbara Ann (McIntire) Haskins. He was born on April 8, 1936 in Brockton, MA, son of the late Malcolm and Zilpha (Mills) Haskins. Richard was a graduate of W. Bridgewater H.S. and played Varsity football, basketball and baseball all during high school. He had resided in Longmeadow for the past 43 years and in Burlington, MA prior to that.
Richard served his country proudly with the US Air Force and made a career with the Dept. of Defense for 35 years. He served during the Korean & Vietnam Wars and Dessert Storm after active duty he enlisted with the US Air Force Reserves, having received various medals, awards and citations. In his leisure time he enjoyed RV camping (Happy Sam RV Club), Umpiring Softball, High School and Adult Leagues, Refereeing, Skeet Shooting and was inducted into the US Hall of Fame. He loved his dogs.
Richard is survived by his children; Gregory Haskins & his wife Carol of Southwick, MA, Richard A. Haskins of Mena, AR, Marsha Arnold & her husband James of Springfield, MA and Robert Haskins and his wife Desiree of Enfield, CT, his beloved grandchildren; Heathyr, Allison, Amanda, Ryder, Alyssa, Joshua and Amanda C., and three cherished great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Malcolm Haskins and his wife June of Norton, MA, along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours on Friday Nov. 4, 2016 from 11:00 to 1:00 followed by a Memorial Service with Pastor Barry Andrusik officiating at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, Enfield, CT. Interment with military honors will then take place in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations in his memory be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute P.O. Box 849168 Boston, MA 02284-9168.
