Obituary for Carolyn Lemay (DeLong)

Carolyn Lemay (DeLong)
Carolyn (DeLong) Lemay, 73, passed away peacefully Sunday July 10, 2016 in Dade City Florida with her beloved husband, Leo, by her side. On July 22 they would have celebrated 53 years of marriage. Carolyn was born March 6, 1943 to her parents William “Bill” DeLong and Wanda (Stakosa) DeLong Warren. Growing up in Rockville, CT she was a proud graduate of Rockville High Class of 1961. After high school she attended Springfield Hospital’s (now known as Baystate Medical) nursing training. Once meeting Leo, she left nursing school to get married and raise their family. Carolyn lived most of her life in Enfield, CT. Carolyn was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Mother-in-Law, Aunt, Grammy, Great-Grammy as well as being a friend to so many including many of the neighborhood children on Magnolia Drive. She worked for McDonald’s restaurants owned by Harold and Mark Rosen for 24 years and retired in 1999. She and Leo retired to Florida in 2003.
Besides her husband Leo J. Lemay, she leaves her three children to cherish her memory, daughter, Alison Wells and her husband Dan of Enfield, CT, son Chris Lemay and his wife Kati of Longmeadow, MA and her daughter, Luellen Perkins of Rocky Hill, CT. Carolyn was pre-deceased by her parents, a sister, Dale DeLong as well as son-in-law Jeffrey Perkins. She leaves her grandsons, Matthew Wells, his wife Amanda, and Joshua Wells both of Enfield, CT. Granddaughters, Mary and Elise Lemay of Longmeadow, MA, Leah, Emily, and Caitlin Perkins of Rocky Hill, CT. Her great-granddaughters, Madelin and Charlotte Wells of Enfield, CT. Carolyn also leaves, her sister Winnie DeLong and husband Ed Zinky of Vernon, CT, sister- in-law, Shirley Archambault and husband Roger of Springfield, MA. Carolyn was Godmother to niece Heidi Rose, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Carolyn was a bit of a daredevil… parachuting out of a plane, driving a high speed race car, zip lining and parasailing. She enjoyed golfing, achieving the elusive “Hole in One” on their Southport Springs community course in 2006. Carolyn loved quilting, making each of her children quilts when they were married as well as sewing baby quilts for all of her grand and great-grandchildren. She always had many projects in the works, trying to reach the goal of making each of her grandchildren quilts as they reached adulthood. Carolyn was not only a wonderful Mother, but a magnificent Grammy, making all of her children and grandchildren feel special and loved. Recently, she shared that they “each brought such joy to my life”. The family has many, many happy memories of, camping, time spent at Rhode Island beaches, playing cards, singing songs, family dinners, and holiday celebrations (Thanksgiving and Christmas being her favorites). When together, there was always the sound of laughter. In her last couple of weeks, with Leo and her children by her side, there was still much silliness, with the final family picture being one of laughter.
A funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Zephyrhills, FL on Saturday July 23, 2016. A reception and celebration of Carolyn’s life was held at the Southport Springs Clubhouse.
An additional gathering and celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, in Enfield CT on Thursday August 4, 2016 from 4 to 7 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Her family would like to thank all of their friends and neighbors at Southport Springs that have been such a support for Carolyn as well as Leo during her illness and at the time of her passing.
